The Problem With Most Drivetrain Repairs

Driveline components are some of the most purely mechanical systems left on a modern vehicle. Because of this, it can seem obvious when a part fails—like a clicking CV axle on tight turns. But that apparent simplicity leads many shops to just bolt on a new part without looking deeper.

Stop Throwing Parts At The Problem

For instance, if your CV axle is worn out, simply sliding a new one into the differential often isn't enough. Worn splines on the old CV axle can permanently damage the mating splines inside the differential itself.

If a shop just forces a new axle into a damaged differential, it will strip out the new splines entirely. You'll be back on a tow truck paying for the exact same repair, plus an expensive differential rebuild.

Our Approach: Fix It Right

While newer vehicles use software-driven components like Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (eLSD), the core of the drivetrain is still heavy metal. When we replace an axle, we thoroughly inspect the differential splines and fluid for metal shavings to ensure the new part will actually survive. You don't pay unless we fix the problem.

Brakes

Front Brake Pads, Rotors & Calipers

Action Required — Replace

Uneven pad wear on the driver side and heavy rust across the assembly. Suspect the driver-side caliper piston is sticking (2mm inner pad left vs. 5mm on the passenger side). Recommend replacing front calipers, pads, and rotors as a matched set.

Electrical & Starting

12V Battery & Stored Fault Codes

12.2V — Marginal (Monitor)

Reads 12.2V at rest (~50% charge). Multiple fault codes stored for low voltage, fuel trims, and temperature sensors. Recommend charging and load-testing the battery before clearing codes.

Resting Voltage: 12.2VAlternator Output: 14.3V (Pass)
Suspension & Steering

Front Upper & Lower Control Arms

Pass (Monitor)

Upper control arm bushings look a little tired; lower control arms and ball joints are tight. Typical Michigan rust in the area—safe for now, re-check at future oil changes.

Ball Joints: Tight (Pass)Upper Bushings: Minor Aging
Suspension & Steering

Steering Rack & Tie-Rod Ends

Pass

Inner and outer tie-rod ends are tight with no play. Steering rack boots are intact and dry.

Fluids & Underhood

Engine Oil, Coolant & Brake Fluid

Pass

Engine oil is clean and full; coolant tested to -35°F. Brake fluid flush is included with front caliper replacement.

Tires

Tire Condition & Tread Depth

Pass (7/32")

Even wear across all four tires at 7/32" tread depth. Tire pressures set to 35 PSI door-placard spec.

When a repair has sensible part choices, we build side-by-side options so you can compare quality aftermarket vs. factory OE parts (or upgrades when applicable) and choose what fits your plans for the truck.

Quoted Only After Inspection (GM Genuine / ACDelco OE Selected)

We don't give quotes over the phone—even for brakes. On this Sierra, uneven pad wear turned out to be a sticking caliper rather than worn pads alone. Once your vehicle is inspected on the lift, exact parts and labor options are texted to your phone for approval before any work begins.
